Club Policies and Regulations
It is the members and visitors at Sharks that make the club a success
and so, in turn, the club takes a very serious view of its
responsibilities to its patrons and the community. The Sharks have set
in place its own policies and regulations to maintain the safety and
security of its facilities, and that of its patrons, as well as
adhering to the laws governing its operation. All members and visitors
are asked to abide by these regulations and policies, and to follow all
directions given by staff and management.

Responsible Service of Alcohol
The Southport Sharks requires all staff to be trained in the
Responsible Service of Alcohol to be able to identify customers to whom
service may be refused; prepare and serve alcoholic beverages
responsibly; assist customers to drink within appropriate limits; and
assist alcohol affected customers.
The Club’s policy is to serve members and guests with alcoholic
beverages in a professional, responsible and friendly manner. The
Australian community and governments take alcohol-related issues such
as drink driving and violence very seriously, and so does the SAFC.
Responsible Service of Gaming
Responsible gambling occurs in a regulated environment where the
potential for harm associated with gambling is minimised and people
make informed decisions about their participation in gambling.
Responsible gambling occurs as a result of the collective actions and
shared ownership by individuals, communities, the gambling industry and
Government to achieve outcomes that are socially responsible and
responsive to community concerns (Club Queensland Exclusion Sessions
April-May 2005).
The Southport Sharks aim to provide an environment that:
• Ensures the integrity and fairness of games,
• Ensures the probity of those involved in the conduct of gaming machine gambling; and
• Minimises the potential harm for gaming machine gambling.
For further information on Responsible Gaming, ask for a copy of the Sharks Player Information Guide.
As of 1st July 2006, the new 100% smoking ban in all enclosed areas of
Clubs and Hotels was enforced. This means that all indoor areas of the
Sharks are non-smoking areas, this includes no smoking at all gaming
machines.
Provisions have been made for those members who do smoke, and these
have been factored into our renovations. The gaming room end of the new
balcony overlooking the oval, and the new deck in front of the
Functions Centre will be designated outdoor smoking areas (DOSA). The
beer garden adjacent to Mackenzie's Beer Garden is also a DOSA.
According to the new laws, drinks may only be consumed in the said area
if the patron brings the drink in, i.e. there will be no drink service.
Eating cannot occur in the designated outdoor smoking area under any
cicumstances.
The designated outsoor smoking areas are clearly marked, and staff and
management will monitor the activities of patrons in these areas,
members and guests alike. A smoking management plan is available on
request.
The Southport Sharks is open daily except for Good Friday and Christmas Day. The Club opens at 12pm on Anzac Day.
