Aspley is through to the 2023 QAFLW Grand Final after defeating Southport by 8 points in the Preliminary Final on Saturday Afternoon.

It was an arm wrestle for the first three quarters, but the Hornets kicked away in the last quarter to win 6.4 (40) to 4.8 (32).

After the game Southport Coach Peter Doherty said, “Aspley were too good for us on the day. They used the footy well and made most of their opportunities.”

“Of course, it is bitterly disappointing to go out in straight sets after winning the minor premiership. We are all shattered, but we are not going to define our season on the last two weeks.”

“We had a great home and away season, the culture within the group has improved and we had 7 girls put on AFLW lists this season. So, as much as we wanted to win the premiership this year, it hasn’t been a failed year.”

“I’m really proud of our people – coaches, players, and staff. I am very appreciative for everything they have done and the sacrifices they have made for this football club.”

“I know they are hurting, but I also know that they will come back hungrier and ready for a big 2024.”
